Project 1: Blog

Introduction

For this project, we were separated in groups of 4-5 and take photos of the location chosen. For our group, we had decided to pick Japan as I was about to fly there for Activity Week. The photos and its captions must touch on four aspects: people, food, activities and culture.

Reflection

The intended learning outcomes of this assignment were to able to apply principle of communications and behaviours in analyzing human interaction at the individual and group levels as well as to be conscious of the importance of cultural differences and respecting it. Other than that, healthy and positive relationships with other students were to be built and communicate relevant ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English.

Through this blog, I was able to learn how to communicate properly with other people of different cultures even with the presence of language barriers. Throughout my journey in Japan, I noticed a lot of details regarding the people, food, activities and culture of Japan that could easily be missed or overlooked. Although I was the only member of the group to go on the trip, my group mates were highly cooperative in the creation of the blog as well as captioning the pictures and participate during the presentation.

Project 2: Oral Presentation

Introduction

For our oral presentation assignment, we had to produce a recorded presentation on any traditional houses around the world. Our group had chosen the Minangkabau for this project and the topics that we covered were the historical background, structure and layout, ornamentations used and types of materials used.

Through this assignment, I was able to further improve my spoken English and communicate my ideas effectively to my group members. Because all research materials were required to be compiled in a logical and systemic order, my documentation skills were improved through this assignment. Our group discussions throughout the duration of the assignment to be completed had strengthened the bonds between group members. From our research that we had conducted, we were able to learn and understand the foundations of a Minangkabau house and its details.

Project 3: Comic Presentation

For our final project, we were required to produce 3 A3 sized comic strips describing experiences in our daily lives, special occasions and events in campus. We were to apply the topics taught within the module.

This assignment has been one of the most fun project that I've had ever done. It had allowed me to further improve my communication skills with my group members and express my ideas on the plot line and characters for this comic. Other than that, because we had to choose a suitable concept to be applied in the comic strip, my understanding of the topics learned in the module had further improved.
