Design Communication

Project 1(a)

In this assignment, I was to produce 4 on-site sketches of interior and exterior spaces within the campus.

A site was given for this assignment in order to understand the notion of space in architecture and translating it into sketches as a mode of communication. I was able to develop skills to visualize by observing and perceiving the landscape, rhythm, details, materials, scale and proportion of the site.

Project 1(b) – Tonal Values

This exercise is designed to enhance the ability to produce and architectural sketch by developing skills such as creating various depth and tonal values.

A prototype model was chosen and four sketches were produced by using different sketching techniques such as hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and scribbling.

Project 2(a)

The first part of the Orthographic Assessments project, we were a given a particular building which is the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies Van Der Rohe. This project demonstrated my ability in drafting architectural drawings through modern and traditional methods.

The outcomes that I’ve learnt through this assignment were to be able to identify and apply architectural conventions and symbols with each drawing produced presenting clear and legible architectural information, which was gathered manually.

Project 2(b)

As part of the Orthographic Projections assessments, an axonometric drawing was produced by using information gathered from the previous project.

I was able to gain abilities such as expressing spatial ideas and architectural details in three-dimension by generating and applying them to the design process and presentation. I was able to produce a legible axonometric drawing.

Project 2(c)

This project gave me the opportunity to learn how to construct one-point perspective and two-point perspective by expressing spatial ideas in 3D form, understanding the relationship between 2D and 3D in architectural graphics as well as improving skills in drawing, composition, creativity and complexity of drawings.
