Project 1 – My Home My Space
This
project is designed to give an introduction to common building materials used
in the local construction industry. The objectives of this exercise are to be
able to identify different materials used for construction, finishes or
furnishings and describe their general usage.
In
this exercise, I was required to choose a space in my home and identify five
different materials that are being used in the space.
Project 2 – Materiality of space: An experiential exploration
The
second project introduces the various materials being used in the current
construction practice and creates an understanding of the material choices that
designers make based on the physical and chemical its properties. It also
creates further understanding of the effects created and the appropriateness of
the chosen materials on the aesthetics and structural qualities of a space of
building.
The
first part of the project, we were divided into groups of five and select a
commercial/residential building that allowed us to experience and explore the
common building materials. The space that we chose was the restaurant
Italiannies in Midvalley The Gardens. We produced boards with information on
the identification and application of the materials used including their
physical and chemical properties.
For
the individual task, each of us has chosen a certain space within the
restaurant and analyzed the influence of the material selection in that
specific space by the design intention and concept of the space.
Project 3 – Integration
This
project required 1-2 A3 board(s) explaining the materials that has been chosen
for the hideout space created in Design Studio 1.
The
learning outcomes from this project exploring and apply the understanding the
different types of building materials that affects the tactile and chemical
properties of the design. I’ve also learnt the effects of building materials on
the quality of a building.
